Worth getting for beginner.
Relatively new to lock picking but wanted to try Top of Keyway (TOK) tensioning. Bought the 6 piece TOK set.
For the price these are great value
The tensioners have thickness's of
0.65mm x2 (different)
0.75mm
0.80mm
1.00mm
1.20mm
This is important as I think you want the tensioner to fit as tightly as possible in the keyway.
After trying these on my small collection of locks I suspect I might only find myself using the 1 and 1.2mm thick tensioners.
Pretty good. Good value.
Top of the Keyway wrench thickness. Starting from the top.
0.35mm/0.013 Inches
0.35mm/0.013 Inches
0.40mm/0.016 Inches
0.40mm/0.016 Inches
0.50mm/0.020 Inches
0.60mm/0.023 inches
Dimple tension wrench thickness. Starting from the top.
0.50mm/0.020 inches
0.50mm/0.020 inches
0.50mm/0.020 inches
0.50mm/0.020 inches
Tension Bar wrench thickness.
0.80mm/0.031 inches
My opinion: Pretty good for the price. A variety of thicknesses for different keyways and the selection choice is pretty good. The matarial used feels sufficient. Suitable for beginners and up without breaking the bank.
Ideal for starters
As a complete novice picker this would appear to be an ideal introduction into a new skill set. The set seems robust and likely to last. It comes in a handy, pocket size case, and with the added bonus of a credit card sized additional set which fits easily into my wallet, and is therefore readily available. The range of picks seems to be more than adequate with a number of rakers (a new term for me) and single picking tools. It also has some picks, which I think, could retrieve a broken off key from a lock, though I haven't tried this, and would rather not have to! The practice lock is excellent for seeing how a typical padlock works and I opened it within seconds. That could be a problem with all such locks, because I want to practice my technique and this lock opens far too easily to see if your technique is improving. When I have tried to open some of my bike locks, they provide a much sterner challenge. One thing could be improved in the set, in my opinion, and that is that the two tensioner tools in the main set are both the same width, though slightly different thicknesses, and I would have appreciated either one of them to be slightly narrower to enable greater access to smaller locks, or an additional tool. The tensioner tool in the credit card set has two different widths, and so you can always use this for smaller locks, but it does seem strange that such an inexpensive addition could not be provided for the main set. All in all a great set; I can thoroughly recommend them for the price and quality. All I need now is a variety of locks to practise on!
Best lock to get someone into lock-picking
I've bought a transparent training lock so I could teach others of the wonders of a pocket size puzzles you can often get for free as folk tends to loose their keys. That lock was useless for teaching as you could barely open it with the keys. This lock is perfect for teaching beginners as it opens in 5 seconds to 3 min depending on luck and amount of beer you've had. Strongly recommend it to get folk into it... but bring more locks of different difficulties in case you want them to learn anything.
For the tools, I'm happy with the quality and variety. Looks and feels like the ones i got from Toool (NL) which lasted for years with little show of wear and tear... One rake has been slightly bent, but I blame that on my 120kg drunk gorilla friend who I can only assume tried to use it as a saw to cut the lock in half with brute force.
The tension tools in the main package are good, would have preferred the smaller one to be a bit thinner at least on one side so to give you more options on which one to use.
The credit card set is fun as a novelty.. I need to test it on a real lock but it looks fine.. the tension tool in there is however horrible. Bad grip, slips out too easily and is just a waste of space.. It's a fun gimmick, but I think I'll wrap it as a Christmas present or give it as a price for best student in class. It doesn't close properly and for concealment it's rubbish. All those things would fit in: business card holders, magic markers and perhaps even a lipstick/mascara container. But.. the tools inside are decent, part from the tension tool.
All in all.. this is value for money even if you throw away the credit card box, dremel the little tension tool on one side and break a rake or two. Just make sure you get more locks as you will master this one quickly.
Update: I've given another star for the prompt and courteous response from them!
Handy!
It’s compact and actually pretty usable for beginners. The tools feel solid enough and it’s easy to carry around in a wallet or pocket. Good for learning lockpicking or having a tiny toolkit on hand.
Good starter kit
Not the most durable product, but it doesn’t pretend to be. Ideal for a ‘first dip’ into lock picking.
Great little pick to get started with
Interested in lock picking? Want to give it a go without spending a lot on a full kit? This is absolutely perfect for you. The pick itself is sturdy, well finished and smooth. It's a little thick so you won't get it into locks with super tight keyways but as a beginner you should be looking for easier more open keyways anyways. The thickness however gives it sturdiness, again, brilliant for a beginner as we can be a little rougher with our picks. I have picked two padlocks (I can now open them in seconds with this pick), and a more difficult cylinder lock. The tip is squared, not rounded, which makes it easier for me to place it properly under the pin I want to lift. The tension tool works well although I'm looking forward to getting a wider range to choose from once I get my proper kit. For less than £3 and same day delivery you can't ask for better.
A great and affordable starter set for beginners
Bought a bunch of these as part of a set of presents last Christmas. No issues with build a quality or packaging and can confirm that theyre a good place to start if you don't want to commit to buying a full set just yet.
Good starter.
Another hobby tool that should help with those awkward moments. There are no instructions with these, but good value for money, and a sturdy build. Very functional.
Perfect set of picks
Perfect selection of picks. Just as good as the more expensive sets. Don't waste your money on other sets buy these instead. You will not be disappointed. Recommend 100%
